MR. CENZ—BELTON™ PREMIUM

URBAN ARTIST LOVEPUSHER’S 3D TECHNIQUE

STEP 1

Once you your concept is sketched out on paper, use BELTON™ PREMIUM spray paint to turn your concept into high-quality urban art. While painting, use a full or half-faced gas mask to protect you from spray paint fumes.

STEP 2

Prep the wall to be painted with the correct type of emulsion. Remember to use masonry paint for outdoors. Once the wall is prepped, transfer your sketch to the wall. The first sketch may be slightly rough, but that’s okay. It only acts as a guideline for the 3D positioning and overall composition of the wall.

STEP 3

Begin working on the background. Working from background to foreground is an old technique from the Renaissance masters, and it’s a more natural approach to painting a picture. While creating the background, save small amounts of the background colors for later. These will be used for any final touch ups and corrections at the end.

STEP 4

Once the background is complete, retrace the 3D outline using a darker color, such as BELTON™ PREMIUM’s #022 LOOMIT’s aubergine or #209 CMP dark brown, to define the lines. The 3D outline provides a solid frame that will be used to apply varying tones to bring the 3D form to life.

STEP 5

Begin laying down the first set of dark tones with MOLOTOW™ #9005 SUPERFAT white/pink cap, using its three level system to guarantee full control of the cap. Pay close attention to the boundaries of the 3D outline to avoid painting over the background.

With most of the dark tones down, the key positions of dark and light will become more apparent. Introduce the mid-to-light tones to make the 3D letters take full shape and create the illusion of coming out of the wall. Use MOLOTOW™ #9009 SMOOTHSOFT or #9010 SKINNY to blend dark to light. This creates a smooth gradient that is much easier on the eye.

STEP 6

With the 3D piece almost complete, work on the small areas and the sections with high detail. Since this work is slightly more delicate, use MOLOTOW™ #9002 SUPERSKINNY cap for precise spray paint application.

Once the 3D piece is finished, use the background spray paint to touch up any mistakes or overspray areas, as necessary. This small attention to detail will make a huge difference in the overall sharpness and visual quality of the piece.
